Overview

However far behind you are, it is fixable.

Books fall behind for ordinary reasons. A volunteer treasurer steps down. A bookkeeper retires and nobody knows where anything was kept. A season gets busy and three months quietly becomes eighteen. The longer it sits the more daunting it feels, which is exactly why it keeps sitting.

Catch-up work is a one-time engagement to close that gap. Income, expenses and credit card charges are recorded and categorized. Miscategorized transactions are corrected. Duplicate and incorrectly posted transactions are deleted. Every bank account, credit card, investment account and liability is reconciled for all outstanding periods up to a date you agree in advance.

Payroll is reconciled, fixed assets are reviewed, and source documentation is collected and organized. Accounts receivable and accounts payable are reconciled, and where the underlying structure is the problem the chart of accounts is restructured. At the end you get an Income Statement and Balance Sheet for the final closed period, which is usually the first time in a while anyone has been able to say what the organization is actually worth.

This is work we specialize in: cleanups, accounting restructures and retiring bookkeeper transitions. Two months of catch-up is already included with monthly bookkeeping, and on the small business tiers a twelve-month contract includes it as well.

Common questions

Questions about Catch-Up Work.

There is no such thing. We have worked with organizations that were years behind, and with startup churches that had no bank account yet. The sooner it starts the simpler it is.
It is a one-time cost, quoted after reviewing your situation. Discounts are available when you bundle it with a QuickBooks Online set-up or monthly bookkeeping.
That is one of the specialities. We have seen a wide variety of accounting files and systems and are confident we can piece together the puzzle of yours.
No. We will get you caught up and set up with better systems for the future. Cleaning up first is not a prerequisite for anything.
